Beautiful music provided by the EKU Traveling Cello group, Asbury Jazz Ensemble, and Young at Heart Big Band Orchestra, a historical setting with a fascinating story, AND unique and fabulous arts & crafts, a raffle with prizes that include a kayak, rod & reel, and a print by renowned artist Riverkeeper Pat Banks. Not bad for first-ever event–not bad at all! In fact, the River Blast at First Vineyard: Pops at the Palisades this Saturday, Oct 1 from 4-10 PM has become the season’s “must go” event, with participants expected from Jessamine, Fayette, Garrard, and surrounding counties.
As the site of the first commercial vineyard in the U.S., First Vineyard is literally the “birthplace” of America’s wine industry. Perched high above the Kentucky River Palisades, it is also a place of exceptional natural beauty, and the perfect spot for Jessamine County’s first River Blast and Pops Concert.
Participants interested in decorating their own Pops at the Palisades table are invited to visit www.bluegrasstomorrow.org to purchase a table for 8 ($250) or 4 ($100), or take a chance and wait to purchase at the gate. Those who prefer to bring their own chairs or blankets may do so for a $5 per person entry fee. Even more choices: guest may purchase BBQ, grilled pizza, or grilled burgers–or pack a picnic basket with their favorite goodies. Wine and beer will be offered for sale by First Vineyard (must be 21 yrs of age). No alcoholic beverages may be brought on the property.
The event schedule includes:
4 PM Gates open, Arts & Crafts show/sale, exhibits available, wine tastings (separate fee). Golf cars (courtesy of Dever Golf Cars) will shuttle visitors to and from the parking area and event venue.
5:30 PM Dry Land Paddle Race starts
6 PM: Pops at the Palisades Concert begins:

Fireworks will start about 9 pm ushered in by a performance of the National Anthem by Asbury University Jazz Ensemble.

Profits from the event will go to Kentucky Riverkeeper and BluegrassTomorrow organizations to increase awareness of the Kentucky River and support the designation of the Kentucky River as a National Blueway Trail. A portion of the profits will support a Jessamine County Tourism Economic Impact Study.
